Golden Declares Victory in Maine’s 2nd District Democratic Primary

Lewiston, MAINE – Military veteran and Lewiston native, Jared Golden, was certified as the winner of Maine’s 2nd Congressional District Democratic primary today.

“After ten months on the campaign trail, I am proud to accept the Democratic nomination for Maine’s Second Congressional District,” said Marine Corps veteran and Lewiston native, Jared Golden. “I want to congratulate Lucas St. Clair, Craig Olson, Jonathan Fulford, their campaign staffs, and their supporters, for the hard-fought races they ran. Primaries are tough, but they make us stronger.”

As a military veteran and a strong labor Democrat, Golden’s message of economic fairness and political reform consistently resonated with core constituencies in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.

“People are tired of political games. If we work together, I know we can fix our expensive healthcare system, take power back from the special interests, create middle-class jobs that pay respectable wages with real benefits, and build a better future for Maine,” said Golden. “For too long, politicians like Bruce Poliquin have favored the few at the expense of the many. It’s time to reform our broken political system. It’s time for a new generation of leaders in this country who will fight for the hard working people they were elected to serve.”

Golden was outspent by a margin of roughly four to one in the Democratic primary. His eight point victory comes after Maine used Ranked Choice Voting for the first time.
